Celebrity is a state of notoriety and widespread public recognition of a person or group as a result of the media's focus on them. A person may become famous due to their considerable fortune, involvement in sports or the entertainment business, status as a public figure, or even a relationship with another famous person. As opposed to the neutral terms "famous" or "notable" or the pejorative terms "infamous" and "notorious," "celebrity" typically connotes a positive public image.
